The Austin Zoo is a sanctuary focusing on rescue, conservation, and education, nestled in the Hill Country. It began as a goat ranch in 1990, transitioning to a zoo in 1994 with a variety of exotic animals. In 2000, it became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The zoo is home to over 300 animals across 100 species, supported by private donations, admission fees, and other fundraising efforts. Annually, it welcomes over 237,000 visitors, including students on field trips, emphasizing its mission to assist animals in need through rescue efforts and educational programs.
