Chimpanzee

Chimpanzees are one of our closest living relatives, sharing about 98% of their DNA with humans. They are medium-sized primates with robust bodies, long arms, and short legs. Their faces are expressive, with prominent brows and large ears. Chimpanzees have a coat of coarse black hair, although some individuals may have lighter patches. They are highly social animals, living in communities that can range from 20 to over 150 individuals. These communities are characterized by complex social structures and behaviors, including grooming, tool use, and hunting. Chimpanzees are known for their intelligence and ability to use tools, such as sticks to extract termites from mounds or stones to crack nuts. They communicate through a variety of vocalizations, facial expressions, and gestures. Chimpanzees are primarily found in the tropical rainforests and savannas of central and West Africa. They play a crucial role in their ecosystems, particularly in seed dispersal. Unfortunately, chimpanzees face significant threats from habitat destruction, poaching, and disease, making conservation efforts critical for their survival.
